Indie artists take many different routes in connecting with their fanbase and growing their brand. For some, it’s constant touring, others use releasing a series of EPs or smaller albums every few years. Madi Diaz has a different strategy, which involves sending her followers select singles as she writes them, many in demo form, and making them privy to her music through videos.
It’s hard to argue with her success. The former Berklee College of Music student has toured with The Civil Wars and Landon Pigg, named as one of the Top Ten Buzziest acts at SXSW by Paste Magazine (2009), and featured on the TV show Nashville. For me, her music comes down to simplicity and honesty. This song grabbed me from the beginning in its approach at romance and the fun feeling it conjures. Gimme A Kiss is one of those songs that could have been perfectly placed in any RomCom and become a hit but wasn’t. Maybe that’s a bad thing, or maybe we’re lucky because its lack of exposure to the mainstream makes it an even better song. Either way, it’s a great introduction to a fantastic indie songwriter.
