How to Fix Snark Tuner Not Working?
There are many reasons why the Snark tuner may not work on your guitar. Fortunately, you can fix this problem by following some simple steps.
1. Check Compatibility
If you are trying to use the Snark Tuner for the first time and it is not working out for some reason, the first thing to make sure is that the Snark tuner is compatible with your guitar in the first place.
It is important to note that not every tuner can work with every guitar, so the chances are that it might not be compatible with the guitar you play.
There are different snark tuners for different shapes of guitars, and that is why you will have to ensure that you are getting the perfect snark tuner that is compatible with the guitar you have. If it is not compatible with your guitar, it will simply not work.
You can check on the compatibility while looking for the snark tuner for your guitar. With a compatible tuner, you won’t face this problem, and you will experience those fast and accurate tunes.
2. Reset Your Snark Tuner
If the Snark tuner is compatible and still not working for some reason, you will need to reset it. It is pretty simple, and all you will need to do is press the power switch on the front of the tuner that will reset the tuner to A-440.
This way, you can reset your Snark tuner. Once you have reset your tuner, check to see if it has fixed the problem. If the problem still persists, perhaps something is wrong with its battery.
3. Check the Battery
If your Snark tuner was working perfectly and has just stopped working all of a sudden, the chances are that its battery is the culprit.
The snark guitar tuners are powered with a battery that might have died out over time. Of course, your Snark tuner will not work if its battery has died. If that’s the problem, fixing it is pretty simple as you will only need to replace it.
However, it is recommended to try other solutions first. If none of them fixes the problem, probably it’s time to replace the battery of your Snark tuner.
The best part is that replacing the Snark tuner does not even require any special equipment. And yes, you do not even need to see a professional to replace your battery.
For this purpose, first, turn off your Snark tuner. Now uncover the battery lid at the bottom of the Snark tuner. Simply take it out and remove its battery. Now, install the new battery and put it back in. This will most probably fix the problem.
4. Get it checked
There are a number of components inside the tuner that may wear out, or your Snark tuner might also be broken. So, consider checking it thoroughly in order to diagnose the problem.
To get your Snark tuner checked, consider contacting the Snark customer care service if the warranty has not expired. This way, you will be able to fix the problem while paying the least out of your pocket. If the warranty has expired, you can hire any professional expert to repair it.
Some of the Snark tuner models had three prongs. If you own an older model, consider checking it as well. Due to overuse, one of them may break off. If a prong of your tuner is broken, replacing it will resolve the issue.
To repair your Snark tuner at home, you will need glue that is meant to be used on similar materials. Simply apply some glue to the broken prong. Apply just enough glue to cover the joint.
After applying the glue, give it some time to dry. Some people make a common mistake by applying the glue and then trying to attach the prong right away. When the glue has dried, you can put the broken prong back into its place.
It is pertinent to mention that Snark tuners come with a product manual. Consider referring to it to know more about your specific model.
5. Get a new one
If your Snark tuner has worn out beyond repair, the only solution will be to replace it with a new one. If you want to replace your Snark tuner, it is recommended to purchase a brand new one.
You may have a lot of memories associated with your Snark tuner. But you will need to replace it if it has been damaged severely.
It must be pointed out that slightly used second-hand models are also available in the market. They may work well for some time, but it’s only a matter of time before their battery dies or you face some other problem.
Buying a new model gives you peace of mind, and it will not break your wallet. In addition, newer models come with even better features for your convenience and a better playing experience. With your new Snark tuner, you will be able to get that same accurate tune.

Brand new Super S Snark tuner immediately does not work. Meter doesn’t move. I’m done with Snarks.
I have used a Silver Snark on my classical for 2 years now, and it suddenly went hairwire!?
I turn it on and tap the pitch cal button on the back and it goes immediately to 466 Hz. and freezes at that frequency. The snark will not even turn off. I have to reset the device by popping the battery out, and reinstall it back into the tuner to once again to gain control. I have changed out the battery with a fresh one to no avail. So far my other snarks are Ok, but not this Siver Snark for some reason!?
I have two. The paint or finish on both started to deteriorate. Not a big deal, except that they became quite sticky to the touch. I found they also seemed to eat batteries.
I like how they work, but I think I’m going to search out another brand…
Snark used to be the bomb. Inexpensive and tuned great. Better the a clip-on Peterson 10 years ago! But no more. Last 2 out of the box tell the wrong note. Tells you the right note is wrong. Makes no sense. Previous 2 also bad. Before that, its good but all sticky. Plastic gets goey over time. Before that, they became brittle. Break easy. Bit at least they worked. My current fav are Korg Pro and a little D’Addario. Clipons Im talking here. Korg rules 4 and Peterson desktop. No more Snark for me either.
John2,
I quit using Snarks as well. The clip’s plastic gets brittle or rubber dry within a year or two and then you have to buy another. It’s called ‘built-in/planned obsolescence’. I’m done too. SO many other great tuners out there that last!
My snark consistently reads my B string as an E. Two different electric guitars, two new tuners out of the box, replaced battery to no avail, contacted customer service – no reply. No more snark for me.
I replaced the battery in my snark ukulele tuner. The tuner comes on, but when you put it on the headstock to tune the uke, the meter never moves. I’m guessing it’s time for a new tuner.
My tuner does not go on in Manhattan but works fine everywhere else in NY city.
Why?
I quit using Snarks. The prongs break too quickly and far too often. Even with very little use. This makes me think you are with the Snark company or receive some form of renumeration. Put simply Snarks break often with little use. The 19.00 $ price tag is great. But you will need to pay that again and again and again ad infinitum. It’s too much I quit!
I just discovered why my Snark didn’t work after replacing a dead battery…
The ‘replacement’ battery I used was a 2025, which drops right into the carrier and LOOKS correct. However, it’s thinner and doesn’t mate with the contacts.
When I found a 2032 and tried that all was well!
