Music is an activity that involves many different senses and processes. Playing a musical instrument, in particular, involves thought, feeling, touch, emotion, and manual skills.
This is one of the few disciplines that involve such apparently diverse spheres in such a tightly related manner. Playing an instrument such as the piano, for example, requires focus, muscle training, theoretical knowledge as well as ideas and creativity.
This particular setting makes for great brain training. According to studies, children who play an instrument showcase signs of healthier mental processes and faster brain development. In much the same way, playing music helps the brain stay young and active in a really unique way.
