Teenage Engineering is a Swedish consumer electronics company manufactured that started back in 2005. They are manufacturing many products including electronics and synthesizers to be used for several applications including music and use with musical instruments.
Op-1 is their core product that you get to enjoy to ensure that you are enjoying the right experience with any of the needs that you might be having. Op-1 has the perfection of a wide range of applications and not only that, but it also has a futuristic design along with the right durability. The Op-1 also has a ton of features along with the interactive display.
You will definitely be enjoying the perfection on it to ensure that you can use it for EDM, getting the right amplitude on tunes that you might be trying to synthesize with it. Op-1 is worth each penny that you might end up spending on it. Op-1 got the perfect features, a wide range of samples and is considered to be a real blessing for all the sound engineers working with different sorts of sounds.
With that in the perspective, there is almost no alternative that you can find for the Op-1. However, it might not be so commonly available out there in the market and you can have certain issues getting your hands on it at the same time. That is why, if you are looking to have the Op-1, you might also need to look at some of the available alternatives. So, a few such alternatives that you need to consider for the Op-1 are:
The Best OP1 Alternative Choices
1. Otto-1 Synth
Otto hardware is another manufacturer of consumer electronics and switches and they are known for manufacturing some of the best devices out there. Not only that but they are also known for their boards. That led them to the Otto-1 Sampler and synthesizer that can be used for a wider range of musical applications and will be serving you right no matter what application you might have on your mind or you want to use it for.
Some factors need to be taken in the perspective as well. The Otto-1 synthesizer has two-tone color options and you can get it in either black or white. Yet, the interactive part is you get to enjoy backlit buttons on it that illuminate and they are not only great looking, but they will also be the best for you to have a more convenient usage experience with your synthesizer for sure for all the needs that you might be having.
The Otto-1 is going to help you out in making sure that you can enjoy the right power and utility at the same time. The only drawback that you might have to feel while you are using the Otto-1 is that it is not as sleek and slim as the Op-1 and is a bit bulkier. Yet, the width is pretty much the same, and that only goes for the depth of your Otto-1.
So, if that is not an issue for you, and you want to enjoy the right power and utility, with the best looks on the synthesizer, you need to give Otto-1 a thought. Otto-1 would be the closest to Op-1 that you can get.
2. QuNexus
While the Op-1 is irreplaceable and there are no alternatives that you can get out there to ensure that you are getting all the features that you have on the Op-1. There are some budget options that you can take a look at. QuNexus is one such thing to be enjoyed and it is pretty affordable as well. However, it is not a synthesizer itself but a controller that you can use for sequencing, velocity, polyphonic, aftertouch, and more.
For all the sound engineers, this would be the easiest and most affordable choice to have if they have a synthesizer, and are just looking for an option to control it with more precision and accuracy. QuNexus doesn’t have a display of its own but can be connected with some devices so you will not have to face any issues or problems with it either.
That makes QuNexus the right choice for you to be having if you are on a budget. QuNexus is slim and sleek, easy to use, and connect so you will be enjoying a far more stable experience with it than any other options that you can get since it is designed specifically to be working with the synthesizers.
3. iPad
While it might sound a bit strange to the new users, the iPad can also be used in sync with some other devices to synthesize the sounds and be used as a sound engineer’s dream. That is something you need to be particularly careful about since you will have to ensure that you are checking on all the factors that are out there with the compatibility and use the best possible tools and devices for connectivity as well at the same time.
iPad allows you several applications that you can install on it and they will be used for engineering the sounds. There are also multiple connectivity options that you can get to have connected with your synthesizers, get the samples, and more at the same time, and enjoy an overall great experience with any of the needs that you might be having.
So, if you are not looking to spend a fortune and want a multi-purpose device to be used for any such applications, the iPad would serve you great. All you need to ensure is that you are picking the right model of iPad that is compatible with your system and make sure that you got the connectivity figured out in advance so you don’t have to face a problem later on.
1. The Otto 1 isn’t out and doesn’t have a release date.
2. QuNexus isn’t remotely the same thing. It’s a midi controller of which there are far better options out there.
3. Really an iPad? Yes, iPads can be incredibly useful for music production, but it’s not remotely the same as the OP-1. The apps aren’t all great and they don’t work together as seamlessly and effortlessly as a dedicated hardware groove box.
As DG stated, you left out every actual OP-1-like device out there. I’d also add the Deluge and the Maschine+.
Really? REALLY? You’re going to ignore other far more affordable grooveboxes like the Novation Circuits, the Roland MC101, or even the Akai MPC One? All significantly cheaper than an OP-1 and generally far more flexible.
