Adele’s Hello has entered the power-ballad Hall of Fame the minute it premiered on Youtube. Structure-wise, the wistful verse and the powerhouse chorus make it very similar to the iconic ballads from decades past—All By Myself, Take a Look at Me Now, The Power of Love to name a few.
So, it came as little surprise when Celine Dion, the French Canadian chanteuse whose voice equals Adele’s in power (but has a greater range) covered Hello during a recent performance at the Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
When it’s time for her to sing HELLO FROM THE OTHER SIDE, she provides us with her distinctive beltings that we all tried to imitate back in the day when My Heart Will Go On was a hit.
Celine Dion’s performance received mixed reviews, with many people criticizing her for allegedly being out of tune and calling her “a country singer” (apparently, she has developed a twang and has sounded nasal for the past few years).
“Lmao its like a country singer trying to act british”
Another user made fun of how Celine pronounces the letter S:
“Hello from the other shiiiide, I musht’ve called a thoushand timesh, to tell you I’m shorry for everything that I’ve done
But when I call you never sheem to be home
Hello from the outshide
At leasht I can shay that I’ve tried
To tell you I’m shorry for breaking your heart
But it don’t matter it clearly doeshn’t tear you apart anymore.”
Even if we give these criticisms any value, what would happen if Adele covered My Heart Will Go On or All By Myself?
